Now, I know this will be a somewhat controversial post, as we all have our favorite rides at Disneyland, and we are all sure that OUR favorites are the BEST rides :) But… after many, many trips to Disneyland… and many, many ride experiences… these are the ones that are always on OUR “must ride” list.

1. Splash Mountain (at Disneyland)

We love the anticipation that always accompanies climbing into this delightful log ride. The twists and turns and DROPS and splashes that follow all add to the fun and excitement. The storyline and accompanying music ensure that each rider is fully engaged in the experience, especially as you make the big SPLASH :) While you will probably leave a little wet, you will almost assuredly leave MORE thrilled (and ready to get in line again) :)

Pro tip: If you don’t mind getting wet a little later in the day, the line is always MUCH shorter when the sun goes down.

2. Pirates of the Caribbean (at Disneyland)

This ride is pure pirate fun! The theming is impeccable, and you immediately feel immersed in this story, as your very own pirate vessel carries you through an array of piratey scenes. There are battles and plundering and and booty and burning timbers, and it is just an incredible adventure. Ahoy, matey!

Pro tip: This ride might be a bit scary for children under 8-10 years old.

3. Thunder Mountain Railroad (at Disneyland)

Never has a train ride been SO FUN! This ride is fast and furious throughout. It has exciting climbs and plunges and twists and turns. And it will keep you screaming and laughing in equal measure.

Pro tip: You will want to remove your ears and hats for this one!

4. Toy Story Midway Mania (at California Adventure)

This is our FAVORITE ride on the CA side of the parks (arguably my husband’s favorite ride at EITHER park) :) It is creatively designed and immensely fun and offers riders an experience within an experience. You will have the opportunity to play interactive games and compete with your seatmate to win a variety of aim and shoot challenges, while also enjoying fun and unexpected twists and turns, as well as Disney’s always amazing theming.

Pro tip: Use your Fast Pass for this one, friends. The line is almost always LONG.

5. Jungle Cruise (at Disneyland)

If you, like us, has never had the opportunity to take an actual Amazon River cruise, then this is the next best thing. Creative and hilarious “skippers” guide riders through an exhilarating tour of animals and nature, with some unexpected surprises along the way. You will laugh and gasp and just have the best time.

Pro tip: You will have a different cruise experience at night than during the day. My husband always insists on a nighttime cruise, as he finds the dark makes the cruise that much more exciting.

***Honorable Mentions: It must be acknowledged that when Small World and Haunted Mansion get their holiday make-overs, they are definitely among our favorite park experiences! You will not want to miss them!
